A fully functioning water heater makes your life easier: bathing, washing dishes and doing laundry. So when it takes a bit longer for your water to warm up, or worse, it doesn’t warm up at all, it’s time to consider a new system.

3 Clear Signals Your Water Heater Is Past It’s Prime

How do you know when it’s time to replace your hot water heater?

1. Age: The main factor while considering the current condition of your water heater is the age. Once water heaters hit the range of ten to twelve years old, it’s time to consider replacement. If there is visible water leakage at the base of the tank or it operates inconsistently or not at all, your system has probably hit its limit.

2. Noise: As with most appliances in your home, another sign that something could be wrong with your system is uncommon noise. You generally shouldn’t hear any noise coming from your water heater. Noise could mean that the system needs some sort of repair, but it could also mean it needs replacing.

3. Rust: One of the last factors to consider while assessing your water heater would be the presence of rusty water. If your water is discolored while your hot water tap is on, that could be hinting at the fact that your water system is rusting in the interior of the heater. Unfortunately there is no fix for once rusting has begun. Once you’ve noticed the signs of rusting, it’s vital to give us a call before that rusting continually wears down your heater and eventually springs a leak.
